MindRise ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your personal information when you use the MindRise mobile application (the "App").
By using MindRise, you consent to the data practices described in this Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
Alarm & Reminder Data:
- Alarm times, labels, and sound preferences
- Reminder notes and schedules
- Stored locally on your device (NOT on our servers)
Voice Recordings:
- Personal affirmations you record
- Stored locally on your device
- NOT uploaded to our servers unless you opt-in to future cloud backup features
AI Chat Messages:
- Text messages you send to the AI assistant (ARA)
- Sent to OpenAI API for processing
- NOT stored permanently on our servers
- Conversation history stored locally on your device
Audiobook Usage:
- Which audiobooks you listen to
- Playback progress
- Stored locally for your convenience
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
Device Information:
- Device model and manufacturer
- Operating system version (Android version)
- App version
- Anonymous crash report session ID (NOT a persistent device identifier)
Usage Data:
- App features you use (alarms, AI chat, audiobooks, etc.)
- Time spent in the App
- Crash logs and error reports
- Stored anonymously - we cannot identify individual users
Purchase Information:
- Subscription status (free vs. premium)
- Purchase date and transaction ID
- Managed through Google Play - we do not store payment card details

You can revoke permissions at any time in your device settings. However, revoking required permissions will prevent core features (alarms) from functioning.
2. How We Use Your Information
2.1 Core Functionality
- Trigger alarms and reminders at scheduled times
- Store your preferences (alarm sounds, snooze duration, etc.)
- Process AI chat requests through OpenAI API
- Track subscription status to unlock Premium features
2.2 Service Improvement
- Analyze app usage (anonymously) to improve features
- Fix bugs and crashes using crash reports
- Optimize performance based on device compatibility
2.3 Customer Support
- Respond to your support requests
- Troubleshoot technical issues
- Provide updates on service changes
2.4 Legal & Compliance
- Prevent fraud and abuse
- Enforce our Terms of Service
- Comply with legal obligations (GDPR, CCPA, court orders)
We do NOT use your data for:

3. Data Storage & Security
3.1 Local Storage
Most of your data stays on your device:
- Alarms, reminders, and settings are stored in SQLite database (local)
- Voice recordings are stored in device storage (local)
- AI chat history is stored in SharedPreferences (local)
We do NOT have access to this data unless you explicitly send it to us (e.g., for support).
3.2 Cloud Storage (Minimal)
Limited data is sent to external servers:
- AI chat messages → Sent to OpenAI API for processing (not stored by us)
- Crash reports → Sent to Google Play Console (anonymized)
- Purchase data → Managed by Google Play (we only receive subscription status)
3.3 Security Measures
We implement industry-standard security practices:
- Encryption in transit: All network communications use HTTPS/TLS
- Secure API keys: Stored securely in app code (not user-accessible)
- No plaintext passwords: We do not collect passwords (no account system yet)
- Regular updates: We patch security vulnerabilities promptly
However, no system is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security against unauthorized access, hacking, or data breaches.
4. Sharing Your Information
4.1 Third-Party Services We Use
OpenAI API (AI Chat Features):
- What we share: Your chat messages are sent to OpenAI's servers to generate intelligent AI responses in real-time
- Why: This is how AI chat works - your messages must be processed by OpenAI's AI models to provide you with helpful responses from ARA (your AI assistant)
- Your privacy: Messages are processed automatically by AI, not read by humans. OpenAI uses industry-standard encryption and does not use your conversations to train their models

- Data retention: OpenAI may temporarily retain data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring (spam, harmful content), then automatically deletes it
Google Play Billing (Subscriptions):
- What we share: Purchase requests, subscription status
- Why: To process payments and manage subscriptions

Google Play Console (Crash Reporting):
- What we share: Crash logs, device info (anonymized)
- Why: To identify and fix bugs

- How third parties process, store, or delete your data

By using features that rely on third-party services (AI chat, in-app purchases), you acknowledge that your data will be subject to those third parties' privacy policies and terms of service.
4.2 When We May Disclose Your Data
We may share your information in the following circumstances:
Legal Obligations:
- To comply with court orders, subpoenas, or legal processes
- To protect our legal rights or defend against lawsuits
- To prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms
Business Transfers:
- If MindRise is acquired, merged, or sold, your data may be transferred to the new owner
With Your Consent:
- If you explicitly authorize us to share data (e.g., for partnerships)
We do NOT sell your personal data to advertisers or data brokers.
5. Your Privacy Rights
5.1 GDPR Rights (European Users)
If you are in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), or United Kingdom (UK), you have the following rights under GDPR:

We will respond to inquiries within 30 days.
5.2 CCPA Rights (California Users)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under CCPA:

- ✅ Right to Opt-Out: Opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell data)

IMPORTANT: We do NOT store your personal data on our servers. To exercise CCPA rights:
- Access/Delete local data: Uninstall the app (removes all alarms, recordings, chat history)
- Delete third-party data: Contact OpenAI or Google directly (we cannot access their servers)

We will respond to inquiries within 45 days.
5.3 General Privacy Controls (All Users)
Delete Your Data:
- Local data (alarms, recordings, chat history): Uninstall the App
- AI chat data: Contact OpenAI directly at https://help.openai.com
- Purchase data: Managed by Google Play (cannot be deleted while subscription is active)

Revoke Permissions:
- Go to device settings → Apps → MindRise → Permissions → Revoke unwanted permissions
Opt Out of Analytics:
- Currently, our analytics are minimal and anonymized (no personally identifiable information)
- Future versions may offer an opt-out toggle
6. Children's Privacy
MindRise is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@mindrise.club, and we will delete it promptly.
For users aged 13-17: Parental consent is required for subscriptions. By purchasing Premium, you represent that you have obtained such consent.
7. International Data Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your own, including:
- United States (OpenAI servers)
- European Union (Google servers)
These countries may have different data protection laws than your country. However, we ensure that:
- Data transfers comply with GDPR Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)
- Third-party processors are contractually obligated to protect your data
- We use encryption and security measures during transfers
By using MindRise, you consent to these international data transfers.

9. Data Retention
9.1 Local Data (On Your Device)
- Stored indefinitely until you delete the App or clear data manually
- You have full control over local data
9.2 Server-Side Data
- AI chat messages: NOT stored by us (processed by OpenAI and deleted per their policy)
- Purchase data: Retained as long as your subscription is active (managed by Google Play)
- Crash logs: Retained for 90 days
- Support emails: Retained for 2 years (for legal and support purposes)
9.3 Data Deletion
What happens when you uninstall the App:
- Local data (alarms, recordings, chat history): Deleted immediately from your device
- AI chat data: NOT stored by us - managed by OpenAI per their policy (30-day retention for abuse monitoring)
- Purchase data: Managed by Google Play - cannot be deleted while subscription is active
- Crash logs: Auto-deleted by Google Play Console after 90 days
We do NOT store user data on our servers, so there is nothing for us to delete. If you need to delete data held by third parties (OpenAI, Google), contact them directly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be effective:
- Immediately for non-material changes (e.g., clarifications)
- 30 days after notice for material changes (e.g., new data collection practices)
How we notify you:
- In-app notification (for major changes)
- Updated "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance. If you disagree, stop using the App and delete your account.
